Don Greaves is a Professional Engineer (APEGA 35741) with more than 40 years of Project Management experience in the oil and gas industry. Don’s career spans both the Engineering and Construction companies as well as the Operating Oil and Gas ones.  Don’s focus has been on the business side of new facilities.

His roles have included project controls, project engineering, construction management, contract negotiations, as a well as executive roles.

After an initial 5 year stint in capital project construction out of school, Don worked for 24 years at Fluor advancing to the role of senior Project Director.  While the initial phases of his career were focused on downstream refinery units, in more recent times he has concentrated on upstream production facilities including SAGD and Oil Sands mining.

The lack of business understanding in the EPC company employees results in poor business results.  This is the area of Don’s interest and expertise.

He has worked from the initial study phase up to startup.

Andrew Smith has over 30 years of experience in the Heavy Engineering/ Construction industry in both Project Controls and Quality Management roles located in the Middle East, UK and Canada.

After seventeen years’ experience as a Project Controls Specialist on heavy oil, cogeneration, oil and gas facilities projects including both design and construction phases, Andrew was asked to take on the quality leadership role at Delta Hudson where he conducted a complete overhaul of the Quality System, obtaining ISO9001 registration for the revised system. Later, as Quality Manager for Bechtel in Canada, Andrew revised most aspects of the the Quality System, making improvements to the audit, quality planning, continuous improvement, training and investigations programs.  As Quality Leader at Fluor in Canada, Andrew was responsible for the practices of Fluor's Operating System regarding assessing compliance and effectiveness, facilitating corrective actions and incorporation of lessons learned. In addition, Andrew served as the Quality Manager for an oilsands mega-project. In 2005 Andrew returned to Project Controls where he has since performed senior planning roles in both the conceptual and completions phases of mega-projects.

In 2005 Andrew founded “Colloquy Inc” which has provided Project Controls and Quality Management services to major companies.

Andrew is the author of several professional papers on the subjects of Quality Management, Planning, Scheduling and Progress Monitoring and has made presentations to the ASQ, CSEM and the Strategic Leadership Forum. He was the principal author of the Quality Management section of Fluor’s “Standard Project Procedures Manual”, used worldwide in Fluor.

Andrew sees the EPC industry as being over-reliant on technical approaches to project work - as if management were an engineering discipline. Applying business common sense to what we’re doing will create exciting results for everyone.
